The TESDA-Cordillera State Institute of Technical Education (CSITE) plays a central role as both host and key participant in the 2026 WorldSkills Cordillera Regional Skills Olympics (RSO), fielding one of the largest contingents of trainees and experts as the competition officially opened on April 21 and runs until April 23 in Baguio City.
CSITE trainees are competing across multiple technical-vocational skill areas, joining participants from across the Cordillera Administrative Region in a three-day showcase of competencies in construction, hospitality, information and communications technology, engineering, and creative trades. Competition venues include the CSITE Main Campus in Loakan and Military Cut-Off, as well as selected partner institutions in the city.
The Regional Skills Olympics highlights the highest level of competencies among technical-vocational education and training (TVET) learners and skilled workers. The event also serves as a qualifying platform for the National Skills Olympics or WorldSkills Philippines 2026, where top-performing competitors will have the opportunity to represent the Cordillera region in national, ASEAN, and global competitions.
TESDA-CAR Acting Regional Director Glenn Murphy led the opening ceremony, emphasizing the importance of strengthening excellence in skills development and preparing a globally competitive workforce.
Support for the initiative was expressed by key regional and local officials. Apayao Governor and Regional Development Council-CAR Chairperson Elias Bulut Jr. highlighted the value of skills competitions in empowering the youth and advancing sustainable development in the region. Messages of support were also conveyed by Baguio City Lone District Representative Mauricio Domogan and Mayor Benjamin Magalong, represented by Doy Tabilog, reaffirming local government support for technical-vocational education and training programs.
CSITE Executive Director Daisy C. Bungallon expressed confidence in the institution’s competitors, noting that their participation reflects both their preparation and the quality of training provided by CSITE. She emphasized the institution’s continued commitment to promoting excellence in skills development and supporting opportunities that enable trainees to compete and grow in high-level platforms such as the WorldSkills competitions.
